Manly’s slim finals hopes were all but ended in a disappointing 10-point loss to the Roosters and the injury-depleted club will face an uphill battle this week against the reigning premiers. The Panthers were at their dominant best against the Storm, showing their class once again as they gun for their third consecutive premiership.
The Sea Eagles suffered another devastating injury blow with Roosters import Matt Lodge ruled out for the season with an ACL injury. Sean Keppie will come into the front-row in an otherwise unchanged squad. Meanwhile, Penrith’s depth will again be put under the microscope with key players in Jahrome Luai and Mitch Kenny ruled out. Luke Sommerton is set to cover the bench hooking role, with Jack Cogger the likely replacement for Laui and five-eighth.
Penrith have shown time and again that key injuries do not impact their form on the field. Manly are heavy underdogs for this match and if they can produce a miraculous upset against an understrength Penrith outfit they could keep their finals hopes alive. Expect another disciplined performance from this well drilled Penrith outfit with the reigning premiers gunning for the minor premiership.
